Designer Recruitment are looking for a meticulous Technical Kitchen and Furniture Designer to join our client based in South Oxfordshire. This is a pivotal role that bridges the gap between Sales Designers' creative vision and Cabinet Makers' precise craft. You will be responsible for transforming initial design concepts for both kitchens and furniture into comprehensive, accurate, and manufacture-ready technical drawing packages, ensuring every project is realised to the highest standard.
This is a permanent role offering £32,000 - £45,000 per annum DOE.
Technical Designer duties:
- Technical Design & Drafting: Take over won projects from the Sales Designer and create detailed technical construction drawings for bespoke kitchens, furniture, and joinery, including elevations, plans, sections, and cutting lists for our workshop.
- Collaboration with Workshop: Work closely with our Cabinet Makers to ensure all kitchen and furniture drawings are practical, accurate, and optimised for manufacture. Foster a strong, collaborative relationship to problem-solve and maintain our renowned quality.
- Client Interaction: Conduct precise technical site surveys (‘Tech Measures’) to verify dimensions and identify potential installation challenges for both kitchen and furniture projects. Attend pre-installation meetings and handle occasional client calls and emails to confirm technical details.
- Quality Control: Meticulously check and review all your own drawings for accuracy, completeness, and adherence to the company's design standards and manufacturing capabilities.
- Continuous Improvement: Provide feedback on design feasibility and suggest improvements in the manufacturing process.
The ideal Technical Designer will be a proactive problem-solver with a keen eye for detail and a passion for technical precision. You understand that the beauty of a kitchen or furniture design is in its flawless execution.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Proven experience in a technical design, CAD drafting, or design-for-manufacture role, ideally within high-end joinery, kitchen, or furniture design.
- Exceptional technical drawing skills with an innate understanding of geometry, tolerances, and construction methods relevant to cabinet and furniture making.
- The ability to read architectural plans and conduct accurate site surveys.
- A strong understanding of materials, hardware, and joinery techniques for both kitchens and furniture.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build strong working relationships with both craftspeople and clients.
- Meticulous attention to detail and a pride in producing accurate work.
- Ability to follow deadlines and push projects along.
Desirable Skills & Experience
- Experience with CAD software.
- Knowledge of the principles of ergonomics and kitchen/furniture workflow.
- An interest in design trends, high-end appliances, and hardware.
